These online job opportunities exist because many companies are now wanting to outsource their customer support or help desk in order to cut down their cost and free up more office space.

The benefit of working as an call agent is that you don't need to work in office. And you probably already owns most of the tools required to get started. The necessary tools are a computer or a laptop, broadband speed Internet connection and a headset with microphone.

The job will depend on the company you work with. It can be taking incoming calls from potential and existing customers who want to ask about the products or services of the company. Or making outbound calls (not cold calling) to existing customers.

There is not much pressure doing the job. But you do need to have communication skill as you will be talking over the phone with different people. Patience is a must because sometimes you will get phone calls from people complaining about the company's product.

When you apply to join a company as a home based call agent, usually you need to first go through a training program. The company will probably pay you for working in the training program. You will also be instructed to install some software to help you with the call.

One thing that the company will insist is the room you use for dealing with customer calls must be quite. The company will not want their customers hear noises like your kids are running around the house, baby crying and etc while you are talking to them over the phone. This is a rule you must comply because the company may listen to some of your calls when appraising your performance.
